ZINE making art collective

Age 12-15 Mondays 4-6pm September 26 - October 24, 2022

Service Description

Join Creative Arts Workshop for an exploration into ZINE making (and a little bit about the history of zines)! Students will learn how to create (and collaborate!) their own DIY publications using a variety of methods popular the Zine-World-Over! Students will get to use typewriters, mimeograph machines, collage techniques, and stenciling to create one of a kind art books. Just a few of the things we will be exploring: Single Page Folded Comics Saddle Stapled collaborations Magpie Collaging Mimeograph stenciling and SO MUCH MORE! A zine, pronounced “zeen” (just like the end of the word magazine), is a homemade publication. There are no set-in-stone rules for making zines. A zine can be about anything you’re interested in. Really! There are all kinds of zines including: fanzines (a zine about something or someone you love), cooking zines full of recipes and tips, comic zines, art zines, poetry zines, and personal zines where people write about their daily lives. I once saw a zine that was created to look like sticks of chewing gum inside a wrapper! The content and appearance of a zine is completely up to the creator and can be as simple or as complicated as you want. CAW will provide lots of fun material, but if you have anything you would like to add (and not get back!)—like old magazines, fabrics, construction paper, beads with no home, etc—feel free to bring them in! Teacher: Conrad Lochner
