Just for pre-teens:

Mondays is Open Arts Studio with our newest Teaching Artist, Tam Orlando - who will use her Cosmic SmashbookingTM arts as a vehicle for participants to create, explore, and honor their own uniqueness and talent. Kid's can come any or all Mondays to participate and can bring their own projects, writing, or use CAW studio supplies to create. Very - user friendly space just for the pre-teen artists! Book one or many sessions online or a gift card for drop in sessions.  Ages 10-13 - $20 suggested per drop in from 4-6pm or free. 


Just for adults:

Join us for a very special introduction to the beautiful traditions and forms of Pangalay! With very special guest, Desiree Quintero (PhD) Desiree Quintero (PhD) was born and raised in New York and now a Professor at Leeward Community College on Oahu, Hawaii, in the Filipino Studies Program. Join the luncheon at Karenderya afterwards for a full excursion! Sunday, December 4, 2022 11am. 

Nosh and PLAY - every other Wednesday for us adults that yearn for a special space to make art, learn, laugh, nosh, sip, and heal! $25 per session or free if you can't do the 25. Each session features special guest facilitators, noshes, and activity. Chill group for chill people! See schedule in registration link below.  

Mid WINTER Workshops and Holiday Camps are now open for registration. Still available - Theatre, Dance, Magic workshop, Rainbow Arts, Nature arts theatre, Older youth art studio drop-in Mondays. 

Most Mid-winter workshops start in mid-January and last for 5 weeks. 

The following session will be early Spring and begin in March for another 5 weeks.

Each of our sessions are adaptable so that kids can come to one or all sessions throughout the year. 

Siblings and groups - use code Sibling at check out for 10% off your sessions. 

School Year Holiday Camps

As we look forward to the 2023 school year, you may realize you need help with your kid's during days off and half days. CAW offers "Holiday Camps" for those days when school is closed. The Holiday Camp schedule aligns with the school calendar for most holidays/days off. Holiday Camp is a day of mixed arts programming for elementary aged children. Holiday Camp registration is now open for 2023.

PANGALAY DANCE WORKSHOP

Join us for a very special introduction to the beautiful traditions and forms of Pangalay! Join the luncheon at Karenderya afterwards for a full excursion!

Pangalay Workshop

Participants will learn the aesthetics of Pangalay Tau’Sug/Sulukas a foundation for pangalay dancing that manifests within local-cultural contexts. The workshop will include a vital lecture component to bring participants into a better understanding of what the “people of the Sug” strive for in performing the movement motifs of pangalay dancing. 


Desiree Quintero (PhD)Desiree Quintero (PhD) was born and raised in New York. Now,Dr. teaches at Leeward Community College on Oahu, Hawaiʻi, in the Filipino Studies Program, and she has lectured in the dance program at the University of Hawaiʻi-Mānoa campus. As an Ethnochoreologist, Desiree specializes in dances found in the Philippines and Malaysia. Desiree was awarded a research fellowship by the Asian Cultural Council, NYC, which made it possible for her to conduct six months of additional fieldwork in the Philippines and in Malaysia in 2019. Prior to that time, Desiree alternated between residing in Kuala Lumpur and Sabah, Malaysia, as well as in the northern Philippines during her doctoral work from 2011-2016. Her research and dance practice closely align with “movement as culture,” particularly among maritime peoples in Southeast Asia. Desiree was a co-founder of the Mahalohalo Kolintang Ensemble in Hawaii (2008-2011), teaches pangalay sessions virtually, and has been sponsored by the Manilatown Heritage Foundation in San Francisco, teaching in-person workshops in January 2022 and upcoming Spring 2023. She is a lifetime member of the Philippine Folkdance Society.

KIDS CULINARY ARTS WORKSHOP - EARLY WINTER

Thursdays, January 19 - February 16, 2023 - 4-6pm Ages 7-13


From warm tomato soup and deluxe grilled cheese sandwiches to berry and fig tarts. Kids will explore Nyack Culinary Landscape and learn all about food, cooking, and everything in between.

Kids ages 5-12 are invited to spend the day with us at the Workshop to craft, play games, explore the Village of Nyack, and also check out its culinary scene. Register for as many dates as you wish!

NOSH AND PLAY! - A BI-WEEKLY ADULT "RETREAT"

Every other Wednesday 6:30-8:15pm
$25 per visit

A continuation of our "Paint, Nosh, Reflection" series.


This go around we will have guest facilitators lead a group activity which will be focused from theatre, the arts, dance, or mindfulness.


This is an easy to swallow (pun-intended) evening meant to relax, inspire, and engage all of your senses.


So come join the fun and get out of the week-day brunt and let's Nosh and Play!!


Each week a special "nosh" will be featured to "feed the soul" in a very figurative way!


This is a safe space to make art, be yourself, and heal. Please come with that in mind as we hold space and kindness towards one another in the shared retreat.


Come for one or all evenings.

Paint Tubes

OPEN ARTS STUDIO - YOUNG ADULTS
AGES 11-15 OR 13-17

Mondays - 4-6pm ages 9-13
Walk-in welcome  $20 suggested donation or free.

Open Arts Mondays is geared for ages 9-13 and is a drop-in style program open every Monday (except for when schools are closed) from 4-6pm. The ask is $20 per participant. These can be paid in advance by purchasing a gift card and we will notch off the dates used, participants can bring cash or check, or you can register for any date online HERE. 


For all of December it is bring a friend for free month to this program! Just email us the heads up. 


We understand that things happen and change, we only ask that you could (or the participant) email us if they are coming. 


Teaching artist: TAM ORLANDO 

Tam is passionate about transformation, inside and out. As a certified Cosmic Smashbooking™ teacher, a 200-hour Registered Yoga Teacher with Yoga Alliance, and an expert on the home environment, she is always looking to support folks in drawing connections between self and body, body and home/environment, home/environment and life.  Her classes, retreats, experiences, writing and speaking inspire people to release shame and discover permission for a new, beautiful, truer self-expression to shine through. Her company Reclaim Your Space offers support, both virtually and in person, for establishing nourishing relationships with your home, with your creativity, and with your body.

KIDS RAINBOW LAB - EARLY WINTER

Tuesdays, January 17 - February 14, 2023 4-6pm $200


This workshop series of painting and art making will explore the science of color, as well as the participants personal palette of colors. With experimental paint mixing, varieties of tools, and exploration the group will dip into the color wheel. Exploring with prisms, basic concepts of light, and color will be the vehicle for discovery.

POKEMON AND GAMES CLUB MID WINTER

Tuesdays, January 17, 24, 31 and February 7, and 14, 2023 4-6pm
Ages 6-8

No, pokemon cards are not allowed at school! However, you can bring them to games club each Tuesday for playing, learning strategies, and also having exposure to other types of card games, board games, role playing play, and art too! 
The goal of this club is to mix active playing, socialization, make-believe, and art-making to use games as a means for expression, joy, and silliness too.
No cards? No problem the workshop will have loaner decks and games for all participants to use.

Magic Hat

YOUTH MAGIC WORKSHOP WINTER

Tuesdays, December 6 - January 31, 2022 / 4-6pm / Joe Garreffa
8 workshops total - no workshop on December 27, 2022 for Holiday break.

This workshop is limited to 8 participants.
Beginners and all interested participants are welcome. 
Recommended ages 8-12

In this workshop, participants will each receive a Melissa and Doug Deluxe wooden magic kit ($50 value) and each week we will learn, practice, and develop tricks. While we learn the magic tricks, we will also spend time developing individual magician personas and themes to bring our performances to life and in a unique way. 

There will be a final performance for the participants to show-off some of their fine-tunes tricks, personas, costumes, and illusions.

ELEMENTAL AND NATURE ARTS THEATRE TROUPE

Mondays, January 23 - February 27, 2023 4-6pm. Ages 4-8

Explore the wondrous world of nature and the changing seasons as we create an original theatre piece. The theatre troupe will create stories about winter and our connection to seasonal transitions. As we explore, nature, plants, and animal we will create our own stories, costumes, and production.

Just Dance! Is the philosophy of this exciting creative movement workshop for ages 4-10. The workshop will use various musical influences, dance traditions, and styles of dance! This is all about socialization, fun, and a non-threatening introduction to movement. Don't over think... just dance!

YOUNG BOHEMIANS THEATRE TROUPE - MID-WINTER

An explorative theatre troupe for ages 8 -12. With Mr. Joe

Wednesdays, January 18 - March 29, 2023 Final presentation during the last workshop.  $375 (10 weeks)
Children will work together to create an original piece of theatre from organic conversations inspired by theatre games and techniques. This workshop also introduces and encourages role playing, archetypes, costume design, costume make-believe, and child-idea-driven outcomes. The workshop will also use music, lighting, and design elements to encourage the children to create a final production.

Rainbow Cake

LIL' BAKERS BAKERY WORKSHOP EARLY WINTER

Wednesdays, January 18 - February 15, 2023. Ages 4-7. 4-6pm. $250

Let the lil'bakers come to have fun with baking, decorating, tasting, creating, and food related games. This sweet afternoon is a favorite  of lil' bakers and each week they will bring home a new delicious treat!

WELCOME TO THE WORKSHOP

We invite you to join a workshop, food tour, tasting event, or class series.


We are committed to hosting beautifully curated youth arts classes, theatrical presentations, events for adults and families too. Join us for a class series, a food tour, or maybe one of our themed tasting parties. 

Our workshop is a place for communal learning, engagement, and fun! Come explore with us and lets ignite the creative spirit, together!

Creative Arts Workshop Teaching Artists have had our presence at the Nyack Public Schools Saturday Academy, Summer Creative Arts Fridays, and facilitating Arts and Crafts at the Nyack Center After School Program, the Montessori of Nyack, and Greenwood Lake Library. 

CAW also partners with the Rockland Pride Center for our PRIDE Family Workshops open to our LGBTQIA families. Each event will host family activities, games, and refreshments. This has been a wonderful way to meet and greet with our community and kids! We have been proud partners sine June 2021. Pride Family events happen every other month. The next is October, date TBA.


We are running early summer and late summer Kids Summer Days at CAW 2023. We will be making art and exploring Nyack's artists and Culinary Landmarks from 9am-4:30pm, Mon-Fri. Early registration opens January 2023. 

CAW follows Nyack Public Schools mask mandate policies. As of 03/03/2022 Masks are optional inside the workshop. We ask that anyone feeling ill or presenting symptoms of any illness should stay home and rest.
