Workshop Description: Geology, Physics & Hudson River Valley Ages: 13-17 Instructor: Natalie Russell Duration: 12:30-1:30pm Schedule: Wednesdays: January 15, 22 February 5, 12, 26 March 5, 12, & 19 Workshop Overview: Dive into the fascinating world of geology with our Geology & Hudson River Valley workshop! Designed for ages 13 to 17, this hands-on class invites teens to explore the geological wonders that shape the Hudson River Valley and understand the natural processes at play. This program is derived from the Physical Setting/Earth Science Core Curriculum from the NY State learning standards for mathematics, science, and technology. What to Expect: Participants will engage in interactive discussions and field activities, including: Rock Identification: Learn to identify local rock types and minerals, understanding their origins and significance in the Hudson Valley. Geological Processes: Discover the forces that shaped the landscape, including erosion, sedimentation, and glaciation, through engaging demonstrations. Field Exploration: Take part in a guided field trip to observe geological features firsthand, collecting samples and documenting findings from the shoreline of the Hudson River. Goals: This workshop aims to cultivate a deeper appreciation for Earth sciences while developing critical thinking and observational skills. By the end of the program, participants will have a better understanding of the geological history of the Hudson River Valley and its environmental significance. This is a pre-registration form for a day arts program. You will not be charged. Once you complete this form you will be added to the workshop roster and once we maintain the minimum participants, a payment invoice will be emailed to you for the workshop series and confirmation that the workshop will operate as planned. Lat day of pre-enrollment is Friday, December 13, 2024. Why? We want to honor our teaching artists and not hold their time slot in January if we are unable to reach a capacity of the workshop. Commitment from families means that CAW can fully commit to and support our teaching artists to create and prepare for a wonderful workshop series.
